hettieshatbox What is a wax block dress? Is that the same as batik? And what exactly is a seam bust? Is the seam ripped AT the seam? And is that 5 minutes by hand or on a sewing machine?

reddogvintagenc @hettieshatbox A wax block dress is a style of dress that originated in Africa. It refers to how the print is made on the fabric. As for the seam - it is a simple seam pop around 1” long on the arm seam. It would be extremely fast on the machine but would take 5 minutes to tack by hand. The pop can be best seen on the last picture.

reddogvintagenc @hettieshatbox As for the Batik - I’m not familiar with them but from what I saw online they are pretty different.

hettieshatbox @reddogvintagenc Batik is made by putting wax on the fabric where you don’t want the dye to appear, then taking the wax off and putting it over what’s been dyed add another color. If that technique was used on this dress, your description would sound like it, but this is a very intricate design for batik. I’ll think about it. Not my usual color palette.
