The red mark of CH Field Haviland was used from 1892 to 1941. 1892-1900, several other colors of the mark were also used.
The mark was stamped on the back of every item as proof of manufacturer, along with additional information (e.g., pattern, designer).
Charles Field Haviland left America for Limoges, France in the early 1850s to join the family business Haviland and Company. By 1868 he had his own porcelain manufacturing and decorating businesses, creating porcelain wares for export to the USA. He retired in 1881, and the company changed names/ownership several times:Gerard, Dufraisseix and Morel, Gerard and Dufraisseix, and Gerard Dufraisseix and Abbot. In 1941, Charles' grandson and his partner purchased the company.
