This is a beautiful Vintage Taxco 925 sterling silver abalone and onyx daisy and hearts brooche stamped Taxco 925 By Los Castillo who is a famous craftsman of Taxco Jewelry. It is in excellent condition. Has a strong clasp in the back. Silver was tested. Genuine abalone and Onyx. Shimmers from every angle. Fine detail and has 6 petals, 3 abalone and 3 onyx and the center is Abalone and also has 6 hearts. The indigenous people who lived in the area now known as Taxco, Mexico were using silver long before the Spanish arrived in the Americas. They mined silver and used it to make gifts for Aztec gods and for other ceremonial purposes, as well as crafted it into unique jewelry pieces. The city’s reputation for beautiful jewelry and expert craftsmanship grew in the 1920's as a result of William Spratling who moved to Mexico after befriending and working with Diego Rivera. Spratling, an American architecture professor and artist, began commissioning the local silversmiths to create his designs.
