We are building our house by hand... 20 x 40 feet 1 and a half story...on the back 40 of my parents land. It's been a long haul, and it's been put on pause several times due to pet surgeries,$ etc, but we are paying for it as we go and doing it all ourselves. Right now the outside is mostly done (we will eventually add a porch and deck)so we can focus on the inside! It's about 800 square feet total with a half loft. Perfect for the two of us and our two Weenie dogs and kitty! Just a few pics. :)

BUT, when you take it a bite at a time and just do what you can as often as you can... it somehow starts to materialize and you're kind of in disbelief that it's actually coming together. ;)

It's a bit out of the norm here so it can be a exhausting staying true to what we want with pressure from our friends / family.... lol. They mean well, but what they want isn't necessarily what we want, you know? Plus, we don't have amazing jobs or trust funds lol, so we are doing what we can. It's all we can do! :)

You have to work with what is there, almost nothing just fits like it should since all the stuff you buy at the store etc is made in different specs and standards than what your house was built with. I've done a little of that and it was sooo complicated! I would love to see some pics!!!

tifflery @ksadog22 We were planning on doing something like that at the beginning, but the cost of finding something to move to out property was CRAZY. So we just decided we would do it ourselves. (Lol famous last words...) Pics please!!!!!! :) are you going to be able to insulate? I know there's an old farm house on our land from the 20s and there is no easy way to add insulation because of how the walls were built.

They're donated by businesses that had leftovers and rich people up in the hills here it's pretty cool. siciliangal @tifflery Chickens! Loved my chickies! Rabbits, geese, goats, guinea hens. Composting, rainwater etc.. Yup loved chopping wood and baking in a wood fired oven😍 We had propane, but only used if really necessary. Had a generator for the evening. Hard work but my kids loved it and remember it fondly. We had 7 raised bed gardens, I think the kids grazed in them more than the animals tried to Lol! Good times🤣🤣🤣

We are thinking about a wood stove or rocket mass heated (dragon heaters.com) still thinking about propane....will def. Have to have a though. Gets over 100 here everyday for most of the summer, and it's very humid. :/ at least until we toughen up or get tired of the bill. Lol.

tifflery @hamsterjane well, not worse, but I'm thinking the medicine might be a bit much? She is extremely hyper active and wreckless....like maybe she's having a reaction to it? It's kinds like counterproductive to crate rest ... we are gonna give it to her twice a day instead of three times and see if it's better in a day or so. If not, I'll call the doc and see about a diff. Medicine. :/

allison_kelsey Rick’s parents owned property up in Duchenne Utah and we will be getting the property. It has the trailer home up there and a couple of fifth wheels. That will want to build a house because the fifth wheels and the trailer don’t last very long in the hard winters up there. My husband is a Carpenter I’m not a Carpenter and like you LOL that’s awesome

allison_kelsey Yes. We have all utilities except for water you have to haul water when you’re up there. Which is a pain in the butt in the wintertime because you have to shovel yourself out first

We just had out water meter put in and it was to an existing meter box so it was only about 300, but if we had to get a new meter box and everything it was gonna be 3000. We were very lucky!

allison_kelsey We could dig a well and it would probably be 5000 bucks but the city has slowly bringing the water out further and further it’s only about 5 miles away now it used to be about 20 miles away

We are going to be on the grid, but are hoping to ween ourselves off little by little. We will have septic and a grey water recycling system (we aren't in city limits by any stretch), Co-op water and electic.

tifflery @essentials2 aw! Thank you so much for your comments! Yes, the babies are all doing fine!. Max and Izzy turn 12 in November! Willie the cat just had his bday this month. 10. Ugh. They're growing up. :( The house is still coming along..we hope to get the final permanent hook up for the electric in the next week or so. He is connecting the outside meter box and mast for the connection but allll the inside electric is run! After that, insulation! Thanks again for your interest and good wishes!
