I had transverse myelitis 8 years ago. I was at UPENN for a week until I was stable to be transported to my docs in nyc. It's horrible and I'm sorry you had to experience that. I still have days where my legs feel like they're full of concrete but then I rest. How long did you rehab? They came to my house after. Crazy! Do they know where the inflammation originated from? They originally thought I had. GB

@fashionchicaz mine was C3-T4... Autoimmune. Less than a year later I had a positive MRI for ms and both caused crps stage IV. Dr. Schwartzman was my Neuro until he retired. I was so sick I practically lived in the hospital so I wasn't able to do inpatient rehab and ended up needing a cane walker or wheelchair to get around until last year when I spent a littrke. Over a month in the ICU followed & inpatient rehab where I learned to talk and walk again...without any assistive device! I have a blog that advocates and talks about life with TM called Neuro detour. I still get banding, fatigue, no appetite, and concrete legs and my bladder, lower stomach, the region etc. pretty much remained paralyzed. It's wonderful to meet a fellow TMer. Do you belong to any of the groups on FB?

Dr Schwartzman at UPENN?? I believe I saw him. My main dr was Dr Kevin Judy, there. My doctors are in nyc. Mine was a little different. It isn't an autoimmune triggered TM. I have glioblastoma. It's a form of brain cancer. My first surgery was to remove as much as they could. I had contracted MRSA in the wound shortly after and after I went paralysed from the belly button down. I was in philly for about a week before they transported me back to nyc where I lived forever it seemed. I was finally released from rehab they sent a pt to my home everyday for 6 weeks. I had to use a wheelchair or walker for some time. Luckily, as far as the TM goes, I'm ok and it was triggered by inflammation to the myelin due to the MRSA. It still tests trace in my spinal fluid ick! I don't belong to any groups anymore. especially for the brain tumors. The type I have is aggressive and hard to treat so the support groups depress me. I also have my hands full with a miracle baby:) do you have good and bad days with the TM? Do they come in spurts? I notice I have quite a few days where I can barely stand

@fashionchicaz I know all about GBMs. My uncle had one about 10 years ago. Treatment's come a long way, but girlfriend did you get a triple whammy! Any one of those will rock your world. If you ever want to vent I'm here for you. I get infusions and nerve blocks 20 min from NYC in Hackensack. I hope you're doing the best you can be. 😘

@fashionchicaz forgot to answer your questions. Firstly, I've had two nearly back to back onsets of TM. Between that and my other Neuro & autoimmune disorders every day is a struggle but I call them better and worse days...a little mind trick doesn't hurt!

That is crazy! I'm born and raised in hackensack. My son was born there lol. I go to sloan. The problem I have been encountering with trials is the fact that the glial cells have invaded my adrenal gland which most of these meds need to filter so I've been turned away from 7. We've traveled as far as mayo and have been turned away. Do you live in philadelphia?

You're amazing! I just go on every day like tumors aren't there. I've been having more seizures lately and have had a shunt placement but it didn't help. I had a round of therapy and cannot do another so a waiting game commences. They're great at sloan and have no problem sending me to other hospitals if a therapy sounds positive or a good fit. I'm still young and not ready to go lol

What a story you have, would love to read your work when it's completed. I am here because medical problems keep me tied to my apartment but you are dealing with a lot more. The days are long yet short and I go between "if I just push harder" and "should I partake in the services offered in Norway?" It sucks. All I think about is I want to be normal for just 1 day, but it never, ever happens, I used to be very active too and I can truly empathize with not being able to move physically as you want. It's the hardest part for me, worse than the pain. Anyways, I don't know what we would do without posh. Keeps me distracted, maybe a little too much, lol! It never occurred to me to sell my clothes until I had to and glad that option is available . You sound like an amazing woman. You look wonderful as well💜

@coolmelanie wow Melanie, that is amazing what you have overcome! I'm sad to hear what happened to you especially considering what you did for a living. You are so positive about it and that's awesome to know about you. I am disabled from just fibromyalgia and chronic pain from spine issues. I used to be a runner and weight lifter... I was stopped in my tracks after a neck injury and had a 2 level fusion a few years after that. I had to learn to cope with not being able to live my normal very athletic lifestyle. I still have my own pity parties but I'm going to take a screen shot of your story to read every time I start getting down... You just inspired me so much. Thank you. God puts people in your life right at the moment you need it. I'm convinced of that! You are in my prayers for continued recovery. Lastly, your closet is incredible!!!! 😊😘

@coolmelanie - @lmpasternack -sent this 2 me. I am so happy to hear u r walking!!!! And my jaw dropped- my mommy's name is MELSNIE!!!!! Only very special people have that name!!!!! I had a hit & run and suffered a TBI and since then a blood disorder I had -(it was dormant) reared it's ugly head& has compromised my immune system. Besides arthritis or and lupus- they r unsure. But Melanie, the hardest thing 4 me is l that not only my brain injury turn my brain into a child but I can no longer walk without a walker and brace. I 2 danced- 4 the Martha Meredith Studio, I took dancing, acting in college. I wanted to be on Broadway. Instead I became a Masters level Therapist. I am big into helping animsls as well as people. Now I need help and it is exhausting!!!! Everything is so much of an effort. My Brain Dr. Say there is NO help 4 me here. That my state offers
NOTHING. I have lived in a nursing home had in home nurses. Now I apply 4 independent living. I'm sick of people's cruelty. They accuse me of being crazy or drunk. I want to educate them, and I will 1 day - like u- not w/ a book but go and tell my story. U cannot judge a book by its cover. I am so proud if u!!!! I will read ur book!!!! @coolmelanie U the inspiration! !! And yes u r right- there is kind 2. I live in a real small town and I unfortunately have mostly faced the cruelty. I have only ever seen I other hand able person here. I wish I live back in NYC. If I had my accident there - it all would be different. People here - r very closed minded, they not only not like me but they r prejudice rasist anti seemetic and now I see how cruel to people they jot understand. But u see- it coukd take 6 months but when I move to Independent living- my whole WORLD WILL CHANGE!!!!!! SO I AM HOPE FULL NOW. I HAVE REASON AND TH ER RE G-D WILL SHOW ME MY PURPOSE!!!!! I hope u know the singer Melanie.

In 2008 I fell down 17 stairs and my head landed in the wall. But after two years and a stay at Harvard Medical Center, they discovered that it was autonomic neurophysiology, where the brain tells the central nervous system to kill organs, ligaments, etc that require a message from the brain to work.

@boutiquebisel ...(cont) The former two were just diagnosed last month after a year of doctors saying my new symptoms were psychosomatic. I've experienced so much kindness. Being physically sick has made me more mentally strong. I'm sure you can relate. You and your husband are special people.
