Lane, a highly regarded costume-jewelry designer, created jewelry for Avon between 1986 and 2005. The iconic Avon, founded in 1886 by David H. McConnell as the California Perfume Company in New York City, was a multi-level marketing business selling perfumes and lady’s toiletries. Renamed Avon Products Inc., in 1938, the company began producing costume jewelry in 1963 as free gifts to boost product sales.
