475 Vintage Hattie Carnegie red and gold triple-strand bead necklace with bright green clasp and matching earrings jewelry set
Vintage Hattie Carnegie red and gold triple-strand bead necklace with bright green clasp and matching clip earrings. When Henrietta Kanengeiser immigrated to the United Stated around 1900 as a teenager, she asked who the richest man in the US was - Andrew Carnegie, a name she would later take for her own. From her home in the Austrian ghetto in New York’s Lower East Side, Hattie built a fashion empire. Starting at Macy’s in the hat department, Hattie opened her first shop, Carnegie-Ladies Hatter in her early 20s, in 1909. In 1918, she found her clothing line Hattie Carnegie, Inc. In, 1939 Carnegie thrived in the “cocktail jewelry” movement (1935-1960), compared to Chanel and Schiaparelli, influencing American celebrities and fashion icons, epitomizing the little black dress, and adding elegance and subtle flair to American conservative style.
