Rare 4.54 Carats Chocolate Ethiopian Opal freeform shape cabochon with play of color.
Chocolate Ethiopian are often brown but this opals based include shades of red.
These opals are found at Yita Ridge, in the Menz Gishe District of Shewa Province, around 150 miles northeast of Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. Chocolate Opal, aka Ethiopian Opal was discovered in 1995, Chocolate opal is volcanic in its origin and is found in a nodular form in volcanic ash.
10 % of these opals are of gem quality, 1% show play of color.
