This 3.25 Ct trapiche ruby corundum. It is a very rare variety of Ruby with inclusions forming a star-shaped pattern that was first described 1997. Trapiche gemstones should not be confused with gemstones displaying asterism, for example, a star sapphire or a star ruby. These rare stones form with a radiating star of inclusions between their growth sectors. While some form with a hub or core containing spokes radiating outward from the core, others include spokes from the center of the gemstone. Authentic ruby can be identified by its color, fluorescence, asterism, and inclusions. A true specimen should display a strong crimson to purplish-red tone. They can also be identified by silk-like inclusions that may appear slender and nearly woven together.
