Two pleats on the front of the skirt flare out & keep it from overemphasizing the hips like pencil skirts do (I know I can't be the only one who's had this problem!). Back of skirt is plain/no pleats etc. Thick waistband for tummy control, & double belt loops - two sets on each side (it originally came with a belt, but I've long lost it - any narrow belt should work though!). Zips on the side.
