snowyowl91 @leoninus Where do I get this powder and when is it applied? I never had my nails done professionally so I don't know what they do at salons. Does this powder require you to have acrylic nails? Thanks

leoninus @snowyowl91 That's what it is, it's acrylic nails. Polish doesn't chip from it like it does on natural nails. Since your nails are quite short they will glue on a tip and then apply the acrylic. The have colored powered that ends up appearing like polish and is more expensive. And they have expensive gel polishes. But you can old school it like I do and insist on regular acrylics and take your own polish.

leoninus @snowyowl91 I did my own acrylics for awhile, it isn't technically complex but if you have difficulty nearly painting your own nails I don't recommend attempting it yourself. Just grab your favorite polish, go to a nail and tell them you want a full set of regular acrylics and that's all you want.

snowyowl91 @leoninus Im ok with painting my own nails, its just that after I paint them the chip the next day. Thats with a base coat and top coat. No matter what brand I use, they chip the next day :(

snowyowl91 @leoninus As far as acrylics, I've never had them done although I did at some point have temporary stick on nails and when I wore them they felt really weird on my natural nails and I've never worn them again. This is the reason I never got acrylics...because I didn't like how the stick on ones felt. Thanks for your advice though! If I ever get acrylics, I'll be sure to let you know :)

snowyowl91 @leoninus I try to care for my natural nails. I even use a treatment/medicated base coat/top coat. As soon as my nails reach a certain length, they break :( I suppose acrylics woild solve all my nail problems with chipping and breaking. I suppose I should give acrylics a shot one day.What kind do recommend? Clear? Colorful? What length? Thanks :)

leoninus @snowyowl91 Regular acrylics. If you take your own nail polish they will paint them for you, or you can choose a color from their selection. Since you're unaccustomed to long nails I recommend no more than a centimeter above your fingertip. After they cut the tips down they can file a little more off if they're still too long after they apply the acrylic. Just go try it. Drive down there now and walk in.😉

snowyowl91 @leoninus Haha a mart that begins with W! Lol! I see. I have regular nail polish remover. I read that with acrylics non-acetone remover is required because it may unbond the acrylic and cause issues. How true is this? Thank you! 😊 💕 💜

leoninus @snowyowl91 If you soak your nails in it it will remove it. But you can remove polish with it just fine. When removing several layers of very dark polish I've felt the acrylic softening but it's thick enough to not be a problem. I've used it for at least 25 years without issue.
