This framed cross stitch was made by a Mrs. D. Tate of Waynesville, NC in May of 1988 for Mrs. Lindsay, her son's 3rd grade teacher at Central Elementary School here in Waynesville.
I also attended Central Elementary in the 2nd-4th grades in the mid 70s, and I believe I also had Mrs. Lindsay. But at my age I'm not sure and don't have pics from that year lol.
Central was the oldest operating school in Haywood County when budget cuts forced it to close in 2016. It was built in the 1950s.
Residents of Haywood County protested in vain to avoid the closure, many telling stories of caring teachers who went above and beyond for their students in all manner of life situations.
Clearly, Mrs. Lindsay made quite an impression on little Timothy Tate as well.
I have tried to locate Timothy. I did speak with a Tim Tate who also attended Central, who said he was in the year behind this Tim.
This would be a fantastic gift for a teacher in your life, or anyone who loves to collect items with a good story. It would also look fantastic in a Boho or Granny Chic room, either on a table or on a gallery wall.
Cross Stitch itself is impeccably done and professionally framed in a real wood frame with very-80s mauve/ cranberry matte. It was a quality gift at the time and has been kept in pristine condition.
Outside dimensions of frame are 9.5" x 11.5"
Smoke free but pet friendly home.
