1930s Vintage Beacon Ombre Cotton Blanket Coat or Robe

Earthy shades of brown tan and blue ombré cotton Beacon robe. Shawl collar and front pockets. Rare double breasted style. Original shell buttons. Wear as a robe or as a duster jacket. Nicely worn as expected from a well-loved 1930’s garment. Original belt not included. These ombré blankets and robes are hard to come by as they all date pre-1950’s. The Beacon company invented a technique to create this ombré fabric using recycled cotton and wool fibers. The ombré process was abandoned in the 1950’s when synthetic fabrics were introduced as a more cost efficient alternative. An arsonist burned the factory building in 2003 about a year after Beacon officially closed and the factory was shuttered. It is rumored that this secret ombré technique was lost in the fire. Some apparent vintage tailoring to take in about and inch on either side. Measurements reflect this.
