If a Ruby is exposed to ultraviolet light (such as a Black light) it can fluoresce and emit a red glow. This is because the ruby contains trace amounts of elements such as chromium which can absorb the ultraviolet light and then release it as visible red light. All Rubies fluoresce whether they are mined or created in a lab, since natural and synthetic ruby gemstones have the same chemical composition and physical properties. Something as simple as a UV light/black light can confirm whether or not your gem is real or fake. I am willing to meet locally at a jewelry store for proof of authenticity.
