vperlowitz this is a very awesome piece of nostalgia! I Googled and found that Vanitie was up against Resolute in the 1914 trials for the America's Cup. have you thought of approaching Cartier to see if they would purchase this from you? I know they purchase items of significance. Another option would be to see if the America's Cup organization might be interested in buying.

vperlowitz A third option is to contact an antiques dealer who specializes in Cartier and/or nautical items to get the price (or more) you're asking for. My sincerest recommendation is that ANYONE who purchases this, please, please, PLEASE take it or send it to Cartier to have them work on this historic piece. This truly is a piece of history that needs to be taken care of by whoever is the owner. Best wishes for selling this fantastic watch!

vperlowitz BTW you don't want to polish this as it will take the patina off which will SIGNIFICANTLY decrease the value of the item. I know from experience as I have been collecting antique jewelery for over 30 years!

vperlowitz @marialoveslife you are welcome. I have been collecting fine jewelry for a long time now and I find the stories behind the pieces as much fun as the pieces! if I hear of anything or think of anything I'll let you know. 😃

marialoveslife @vperlowitz yes , in deed dear! These timepieces with manually wound movements are produced in compliance with the strict directives of Cartier as regards both artisanship and rate accuracy.
