This original U.S. Army Signal Corps postcard, mailed in 1941, features a black-and-white photo of U.S. infantry soldiers guarding a rural road, rifles at the ready, during pre-WWII military maneuvers. Titled “Infantry Guards the Roads”, this scene reflects early U.S. defense mobilization efforts prior to America’s entry into WWII.
The reverse includes a postmark dated May 14, 1941, sent from Trenton, NJ with a 1¢ Washington green stamp. Published by W.R. Thompson & Co., Richmond, Virginia, the card includes a patriotic recruiting message:
"Defend Your Country — Join the U.S. Army."
