This is a hat made by Lecie in the calot style in what I believe to be its original hat box and receipt: purchased from Washer Bros in Fort Worth, TX. There is a tag on the box saying it is from 1938 and a receipt in the box from 1958. I am not sure which date is the right one, but the maker Lecie's and the style of hat are more surely from the 50s. Size: Modern Small Condition: Very good overall, with no major structural flaws or missing elements. The netting is falling off on one side but is easily reattached. STYLE This calot hat embodies the classic mid-century millinery style with its brimless, close-fitting rounded crown that sits neatly toward the back of the head, leaving the face and hairstyle beautifully uncovered. FEATURES Soft white fabric blossoms—likely silk or organza hydrangea-like blooms with subtle dark centers—arranged asymmetrically across the top and sides, accented by coordinating olive-green satin leaves for natural contrast. Luxurious large gold-olive satin bows crown the arrangement. DETAILS ABOUT THE MAKER Washer Bros. (full name Washer Brothers) was a well-established, upscale department store in downtown Fort Worth, Texas, operating from 1882 onward. It started as a men's clothier but expanded to carry women's clothing, accessories (including millinery/hats), and luxury items by the early 20th century. It remained in business through the 1960s (sold to Hart Schaffner & Marx in 1968, closed around 1988).
