girlsgonesewing @hopemz HNY! There is no other label to tell us what specifically the hat is made of. Yes, the band is detachable as are most Mad Hatter hats. This is a vintage hat. I have a newer one and it does not a label indicating what it is made of either.

madhattersav @hopemz hello! I can actually help with this question as we run the store down in Savannah. As a matter of fact, he is still making these hats currently. This hat was made by Richard Young and he is the only one in the United States who specializes in this unique craft anymore. He gets what is called a toquila straw body straight from Panama and turns them into a hat. He has been been crafting his hats for 40 years now and has sold to the likes of World Market, Cracker Barrell and Bollman Hats.
