This one had a mate. They sat on my kitchen table for years, guarding it like it was sacred ground. Then my toddler got involved and only one survived. His name is Lucky.
CBK Ltd. was doing magical work around the turn of the millennium. Their ceramics from this period have a particular sensibility — a little whimsical, a little curious. Someone clearly thought about scale, posture, glaze, all the small things that separate an object from an afterthought. This piece is from their late-90s animal line, one of those short-run series that came and went before people realized they’d want them later.
He’s a leopard playing at being a tiger, or a tiger borrowing leopard spots. You can tell these markings weren’t copied from a template; someone decided them stroke by stroke.
The leaves curling around the base have veining you can actually follow. The stump is textured like someone understood bark, not just the idea of bark. He has a gorgeous amber glaze—rich, even, and easy to appreciate up close.
What matters:
• 10” tall, 5” wide at the base
• Hand-painted glazed ceramic
• 2000
• Excellent condition — no chips, cracks, or wear
• Takes a 3/4” taper candle
He fits best in a home built slowly — a place with thrifted art, mismatched mugs, and objects collected because they hold meaning, not because they matched. He belongs where odd pieces make sense and nothing feels mass-produced.
