An especially beautiful vintage Chinese Satsuma-style vase dating to 1984, with an unusual moon flask / basket form and ornate openwork gilded handle. Standing an impressive 15” tall, the vase is richly decorated with detailed maritime scenes surrounded by florals, scrolling motifs and extensive raised gilt decoration. The palette of warm rust, deep green, soft yellow and gold is wonderfully balanced—highly decorative without feeling overly bright. The form is what really sets this piece apart. A large basket-style opening is incorporated into the flattened moon-flask body, finished with a sculptural openwork gold handle and pedestal base. At this scale it makes a substantial statement piece. Marked Made in China with an “84” date mark to the underside. Measurements: 15” H × 8” W × 7” D Condition: Excellent vintage condition. No chips, cracks or repairs noted. The painted and gilded decoration remains remarkably vibrant and well preserved. Fine crazing is visible within the pale scenic panels, consistent with the glazed finish and age of the piece. A striking example of 1980s Chinese export porcelain incorporating traditional Satsuma-inspired and Chinoiserie decorative elements.
