1970s NWT USSR made Uzbek “Skullcap” pillbox hat Gifted to me by my sweet elderly Russian neighbor Traditional embroidery-black with red fabric lining Tag translates into “Production Association of Artistic Crafts” “Size 55cm” Gender neutral/unisex History lesson: These hats are worn in Uzbekistan by everyone. This was made in the USSR before Uzbekistan declared their independence in 1991. This specific Chust region skullcap is prized because it takes the longest to make and is hand stitched. The Chust skullcap is the highest of the skullcaps and the white embroidery promises wealth and protection. Measurements 4.5”x4.5” total height around 2.5” rim and for brim height see photo
