United Design Stone Critters Collection Sitting Boxer Sculpture Figurine

Cute figurine of a sitting boxer from Stone Critters collection. The company United Design was founded in 1973 by Gary and Jeanie Clinton, who started with a single kiln in a backyard chicken coop. They quickly found their niche in sculpting clay figures. The Boxer is a medium to large sized dog breed which originated in Germany during the 18th century. They were developed as a cross between a Bulldog and the now extinct Bullenbeisser dog breed. The name 'Boxer' is supposedly derived from the breed's tendency to play by standing on its hind legs and 'boxing' with its front paws. During World War I, the Boxer was co-opted for military work, acting as a valuable messenger dog, pack-carrier, attack dog, and guard dog. These strong and intelligent animals have been used as service dogs, guide dogs for the blind, therapy dogs, police dogs in K9 units.
