fasterhorsez
fasterhorsez Elliot is a rescued springer spaniel who was angry and frightened when we got him. He used to growl at me and clearly thought I was going to beat him. He warmed up to my husband over time but remained stand-offish to me. One day shortly after my mother passed away I was sitting on the couch overcome with grief when suddenly he nudged me. I looked at him through my tears and he laid his head in my lap. Our relationship changed forever after that. He’s my best buddy now!

scriptedstyle @fasterhorsez That’s a beautiful story! Dogs are incredibly sensitive to our emotions and physical states of being. They also grieve and know what it feels like! Thank you for sharing! 🐾🐾

cricket6187 I loved my doxie so much. I took care of him when he got sick. He passed away last October, and I miss him every day. He had the biggest heart ever. More then any human i know. He was my best friend.

scriptedstyle @cricket6187 Awww. I’m so sorry for your loss. I know that feeling. My dog Frannie is my best friend (after my husband). She is the sweetest, gentlest soul, a true healer with people & other animals. If only more humans were like dogs. I hope you’ll be able to open your heart to another dog some day. Will never be just like your doxxie, but will be a completely new & wonderful kind of love. Only if/when you are ready of course. ❤️😘

scriptedstyle What a beautiful story. I feel for you because many years before I met him, my husband had a dog that killed by a coyote in LA. "Bob" was in the yard of a friend at Thanksgiving, playing with several other dogs, and somehow the coyote separated him out (he was the only small dog). My husband was grief-stricken and still hasn't gotten over little Bob, who he rescued from a parking lot and was his best buddy.

scriptedstyle I wish we could have a second dog but we travel & one 50 lb girl is enough. She can go on planes w/me because I've trained her as a medic alert dog for my food allergies. She's b/twn 4-5 & when she's older, we know she'll be a great surrogate "mom" to a younger rescue. She does get to play w/other dogs at least 3-4 days/wk, including her very best friend Yogi. Just say his name & she starts to dance.

abeautifulchaos
abeautifulchaos @scriptedstyle my Stella is my ❤️!!! She is a weimaraner mix rescue I got at a flea market over a year ago FOR FREE! Went with my friend to get some chickens (btw I live in the sticks, literally backwoods, in Alabama lol). When I saw my beautiful girl I knew she was meant for my family. She has a listing dedicated to her and Rosie and Nina in my closet (dad's dog and neighbor dog who come to play daily lol).

abeautifulchaos @scriptedstyle con't If you get a chance check her out! She's beautiful, brilliant and amazingly sweet but terrified of humans she doesn't know 😥 she was around 10 weeks when we got her and the people giving her away just said she and her siblings were dropped off at her house bc the whole neighborhood "knows how we are about them dogs." It breaks my 💔 to think about what happened to her before we got her. 😰 Anyway the good news is she is happy, healthy, and perfect. 😍🐾😍🐾😍

scriptedstyle @abeautifulchaos Chass Thank You for this story....in your photos, is Chass the brown dog on the left? Weimariners are great dogs. You also have a gorgeous family & a to-die for closet! Frannie is a Southern Belle in a Yankee city. She was rescued just in time from. 72 hr kill shelter in GA & driven north with a truckload of other rescues...first to Maryland, then NY. She was being fostered when we got her 3 years ago - she’s between 4 & 5.

caterfly82
caterfly82 Where do I start!? I am a 💯 Dog lover!!! I have had dogs my whole life & they have taught me the true meaning of what love, loyalty, & compassion means. I adopted one of Michael Vick’s pit/lab mixes that was taught to fight. Best dog ever! He is a lover & is rehabilitated. I would absolutely love to have my own animal rescue one day & help rehabilitate dogs like him. There are too many in shelters that need homes!!! I love my fellow dog lovers!! Good hearted people!!! Love this post!

scriptedstyle
scriptedstyle @caterfly82 OMG....you have one of the Michael Vick dogs?! So grateful to you! They are a living monument to how amazingly resilient, forgiving & loving dogs are!!! I read the book about them. Would you be interested in contributing a short piece about your experience for our new dogwhisperer.com blog? Thank you for stopping by - so happy to meet you! ❤️🐾🐾

caterfly82
caterfly82 @scriptedstyle Yes! They absolutely are resilient & forgiving! What that man did is unforgivable! But the dogs move forward & are so amazing! I didn’t have much room in the post, but his name is Ripley. I no longer have him, for very sad reasons😢. He is very happy though & with a good man. But I adopted another American Pit & he is just as amazing! They all are with a good leader. I would love to write about Ripley & our experiences!! 💘

caterfly82 I had him for a long time, he saved my life! I have 🐾 paw prints tattooed on me to remember him by and never forget what a difference he has made in my life and what he and all dogs mean to me. Not everyone understands this bond and think I am crazy. Lol 😂. But they are my passion. We have to be their voice! They are so pure hearted and innocent. ❤️❤️❤️ Who rescued who?
Apr 18Reply
scriptedstyle
scriptedstyle @caterfly82 agreed. I am a huge pit advocate. Just got in a thing on Twitter w/a guy who never owned one, never worked with one, but wanted them all banned or put down. The only problem w/pits is owners. Negligent, ignorant, too inexperienced or abusive. So important for the right owner & the right dog to match up.

samanthaleeannp
samanthaleeannp This is adorable so I had to participate. I have three dogs. My most recent adoption is a dachshund (who showed up at the shelter on my last day working there). She was left with her wheelchair and she immediately stole my heart. Ive had her almost two years now and she's the happiest little dog who inspires me every day. In less than one month I graduate with my doctorate in veterinary medicine. Dogs are my favorite animals!

scriptedstyle @samanthaleeannp Wow...you’re going to be a vet! What a special profession! And congrats on your special needs doxxie...Everyone I know who has adopted a special needs animal has told me it’s changed their lives. Animals just go forward in life...they don’t feel sorry for themselves. Thanks for sharing!

chickiedoodle
chickiedoodle I love your dog and I love your dog pics!! I have a rescue Husky/Pit (mix we think). We got her when she was almost a year, and she had lived 2-3 other places before us. She's about 3.5 years old now and the biggest snuggle bug. She loves her toys, and stealing the pillows and blankets any chance she gets!!
Jun 06Reply
scriptedstyle
scriptedstyle @chickiedoodle Hi! Frannie says thanks for the compliments! Your dog sounds terrific. It takes the right owners to help a dog sometimes. Frannie wasn’t adopted for a year because (for 1 reason) she was terrified of getting into cars. Nobody wanted to lift a 50lb dog in each time.
Jun 06Reply
scriptedstyle
scriptedstyle @chickiedoodle (2) Now she goes everywhere with me...the car problem was pretty easily fixed...she just needed someone who knew how to do it.
Jun 06Reply
chickiedoodle
chickiedoodle Thanks Frannie!! Zoey sends her love. She's about 55lbs now, and fortunately I haven't had to lift her too many times. She's likes going on car rides and we try and take her to an enclosed field to play fetch as often as we can. Our yard isn't big enough for her to burn off her energy. She's extremely protective, and we have to introduce her to new faces very gradually. This is definitely our biggest challenge so far, but she's as sweet as can be once she warms up to you!!
Jun 06Reply
scriptedstyle
scriptedstyle @chickiedoodle Both huskies & pitties are naturally protective of their humans. But it definitely can be controlled so you don’t have to worry about it constantly. Just takes practice & consistency. Zoey sounds like a sweetheart!
Jun 06Reply
chickiedoodle
chickiedoodle @scriptedstyle Thanks for the encouragement!! We definitely want to introduce her to new people more frequently, but it will be a very gradual process. Frannie is lucky to have found such a great home!!

kingbrightman Awww Frannie. So adorable. So sophisticated with those crossed paws. Love it!
Jun 15Reply
scriptedstyle
scriptedstyle @kingbrightman Yes, she was rescued from a Georgia kill shelter but clearly she was raised a we’ll-mannered Southern belle. She’s extremely polite to both people & critters and looks at out of control dogs as if saying, “Where are your manners? Were you raised in a barn?”🐶🐾
Jun 15Reply
scriptedstyle
scriptedstyle @thingsofplenty Oh I am so terribly sorry about your brother. That’s so terrible. It must be very hard on your whole family. I’m sure his dog is a comfort.

knitterdawn
knitterdawn I had just finished chemo and was running errands. I saw a family in the parking lot selling puppies. I had to stop. I lost my precious pug Bonnie Sue just before treatment started. If nothing else, I needed puppy cuddles. I ended up with my sweet little maltese mix Hope Angel. Jesus gave me a puppy.

Jul 15Reply
scriptedstyle
scriptedstyle @mistypax17 congrats on your sweet pups! To be honest, I would only rescue a dog. 6 million (that we know of) dogs & cats put to death every year, between 95-98% just because they don’t have homes. Rescue dogs sometimes come with issues...but most can be helped & when you do, you have the most grateful, loyal friend for life.
Jul 15Reply
scriptedstyle
scriptedstyle Frannie REFUSED to get into cars which is why she wasn’t adopted for over 1 year after being rescued from GA kill shelter & brought North. Nobody wanted to lift 52 lb dog into car every time. I fixed that in under 3 mos. She now goes everywhere with me & has been on trains, boats, and 8 cross country flights in cabin. It’s all about patience, leadership & TRUST. 🐾🐾❤️

mistypax17
mistypax17 @scriptedstyle And those three qualities are good for any relationship! When you get a dog you don’t know each other so building that foundation is so important for it to last! 😃
Jul 15Reply
scriptedstyle
scriptedstyle @mistypax17 Rescued dogs are definitely grateful in their own way, especially early on. Gratitude is more a feeling than a thought, and though dogs don’t think like us, their emotions are exactly the same (MRIs prove it.) They Don’t ruminate on past events - they associate things with them - but they FEEL they were in a bad place once & associate you with the good feeling of being rescued forever.
Jul 15Reply
scriptedstyle
scriptedstyle @mistypax17 Your job is to preserve that feeling to build trust...then with work you can create a reborn dog - even when they come to you traumatized. Take the Michael Vick dogs - the majority of them were placed and became great pets. There’s a moving book about it. Dogs understand forgiveness & moving on better than us.
