speas Levi Strauss is credited as the inventor who commercialized the selling of blue jeans, though the fabric, a twill weave, was invented as "Serge de Nimes" in France, in the 1800s. The use of indigo as a dye is much older.

catstone1215 May 20, 1873 marked an historic day: the birth of the blue jean. It was on that day that Levi Strauss and Jacob Davis obtained a US patent.
