Antique Silverplate large meat dome / lid / cloche measuring 16” long; 11.5” wide; 10” h
Surrounded by waves, the engraved crest is of the Clan Wood, a Lowland Scottish clan known for its crest of a ship under sail and Latin motto "Tutus in Undis” or Safe amid the Waves. The oak tree is the clan’s plant symbol.
The piece features melon-like vertical shapes and the handle has a classic ribbon and reed motif. The crossed arrow mark may be William Hutton and Sons. William Hutton established the business in 1800 in Birmingham, later moving it to Sheffield in 1832. They adopted the "Cross Arrows" mark in 1902.
I left the patina as I know some prefer this. There are a few scratches and one area on handle plate is slightly dented.
Domes make great statement centerpieces or part of decor or wall groupings. Some are cut in half as wall planters.
