They surround the whole bag - front , back, sides, even the bottom! It has faux leather trim in tan / brown with a drawstring close and a safety snap over that. The bottom has some depth of 5" more like a bucket bag actually. The inside is nicely lined in a brown nylon type of material that looks easy to wipe down. It has the signare printed on it in a repeat pattern. There is also one slot pocket and one zip pocket. Adjustable backpack straps with gold buckles. Really adorable novelty print bag. It is unused but a few loose black threads on bottom, maybe manufacturer defect. I would just glue down maybe? See measurements in pictures.
