An very rare find: this antique Japanese Meiji period Satsuma pottery vase made during the late 1800s or early 1900s. This is a wonderful quality, lavishly decorated piece. The detail and stunning colors enrich any room or shelf! The vase is fabulously hand painted and hand gilded, with incredibly detailed and intricate etched floral decorations. The side carved dragons and bottom detailed dragons ... a recurring motif in Japanese art that symbolizes power, wisdom, and protection. When engraved onto ceramics, it lends an air of majesty and security to the piece, an essence carried through generations. The vase is decorated in a variety of colors, but gold and a beautifully muted Mocha brown and white are the most prominent from a distance. Just stunning! This piece is in great condition. There is some crazing throughout, as is characteristic of Satsuma pieces. There is one chip on the left handle Dragon but not necessarily noticeable to the eye. Pricing has been adjusted for this flaw. otherwise, there are , no cracks, no breaks, and no repairs. 14 inch Height, 9" width.
