Sabino Opalescent Crystal Fish Sculpture “POISSON SAINT GEORGE" RARE Vintage 1920-1930’s. Just breathtakingly beautiful vintage Sabino sculpture of a larger swimming fish. It has the signature inscription “Sabino France” on the bottom of the sculpture denoting that it is an early original piece that was made in France. This piece is in excellent condition overall, but does have one small chip on the tail fin that is extremely hard to see with the naked eye and camera. See last picture. Otherwise, excellent condition. These were protected and very cherished pieces that were never handled. No box. From a smoke free, pet free home. OPALESCENT ART DECO GLASS OF THE 1920S AND 1930S The artist Marius-Ernest Sabino (1878-1961) was an Italian-born Parisian who attended L’Ecole National des Arts Decoratifs and the Beaux Arts de Paris. He won numerous prizes in Europe for his art and was awarded the Knight of the Legion d’Honneur for his contributions to French art and industry. Sabino experimented with glass and by 1925 he had created his own chemical formula for opalescent glass. The result is that in low light the glass often appears white or bluish like ice in a glacier, but with brighter or more direct light, many of the pieces turn a subtle golden color. As if by magic.
