'Rickie Lee Jones' is the self-titled debut album by the American singer-songwriter, originally released in February of 1979, by Warner Bros. Records. Jones had begun playing live in the Los Angeles area at the age of 21, where an artists' showcase performance led to a record deal with Warner Bros. Two of the albums' songs, 'On Saturday Afternoons in 1963' and 'After Hours', were recorded live.
The album peaked at #3 on the US Billboard 200 chart and was further promoted by a performance on Saturday Night Live in April 1979, where she performed 'Chuck E.'s in Love' and 'Coolsville.'
The lead single 'Chuck E.'s in Love' peaked at #4 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. A second single, 'Young Blood', made it into
the Top-40 later in the year.
The album was certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, and Jones won a Grammy Award for "Best New Artist."
