This is a wonderful western cowboy hat made by Stetson. The liner on this cowboy hat sweatband is marked "John B Stetson Company 3X Beaver" and "XXX Stetson Made in U.S.A.". The 3X Beaver denotes a higher beaver fur content, however, there's no precise measure of how much beaver fur is actually used in a 3X cowboy hat. It's difficult for me to date this precisely, but the lack of European sizing on the rectangular cardboard size tag would appear to indicate prior to 1971, but it may even date to the 1980s. During the 60s, and into the 80s, 3X was the third highest quality produced for a cowboy hat. This cowboy hat is made in classic Western form in a colour that may be called silver belly - I've seen different tones called silver belly on the internet, most lighter than this colour, which may be called "natural" , but I would characterize it as a tan colour. The hat has a slightly turned brim at the sides and the crown is deeply creased and has a front crease that is called The Fort Worth Crease. The crown has a feather band and thin grosgrain matching band around its base. It is sized as a 73/8 - it measures 23" around the sweat band and 6 3/4" by 8" across the opening. The brim measures 31/2"' in width and the crown measures 4" in height at the front and 5" at the side. This cowboy hat is in very good condition with no pronounced wear
