These unusual Coro screw-back earrings, in a cloisonné style, are an uncommon departure from the company’s familiar florals and rhinestone pieces. Red, white, and green enamel frames an Ottoman-inspired tughra motif with dated script, a subject rarely attempted in American costume jewelry. The design links Coro to mid-century novelty lines that borrowed from international and medallic imagery. Collectors will recognize them as a scarce example of Coro’s more experimental Heraldic Line, modeled after the Ottoman Şefkat Nişanı (Order of Charity) design—produced in the late 1940s to early 1950s.
