The Moulin Rouge was a short-lived, but influential, hotel and casino in West Las Vegas that was known for being the first integrated establishment in the city and the United States. It opened on May 24, 1955, and quickly became a popular destination, attracting both Black and White patrons, which was a significant departure from the segregated Las Vegas of the time. Despite its popularity, the Moulin Rouge closed after only six months, but its brief existence played a crucial role in the integration of the Las Vegas Strip.
The Moulin Rouge attracted major entertainment stars, including Sammy Davis Jr., Dinah Washington, and Louis Armstrong.
The plate measures 10 3/4" in diameter and weigh almost 2 1/2 pounds.
The plate is in great vintage condition, NO chips, cracks, crazing or utensil marks on the surface.
This is a rare piece of history with only a few out there for purchase.
