Replying to both questions- No damage or scents, or stains, used minimally and did not carry food or anything smelly in it. I don't smoke and have no pets. I added an extender strap in the "nutmeg" color to this bag which is the "cinnamon bear" color. The original strap is on the bag and the extender is just buckled on and can be easily removed. It's a nice addition that turns this into a crossbody but can be converted right back into a shoulder bag.
