This set of artworks features Locomotive No. 473 and its real-life journey through the Colorado canyons. Built in 1923, No. 473 is a K-28 class narrow-gauge steam engine and one of the few that were requisitioned by the U.S. Army during World War II for military transport in Alaska. After the war, it returned to Colorado and resumed service on the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad.
Today, No. 473 is one of the very few WWII-service locomotives still operating on its original route. These paintings uniquely capture both its wartime legacy and mountain railroad history — a rare find for collectors.
