April is OT month. What is occupational therapy? I am a certified occupational therapy assistant in a skilled nursing facility setting who challenges patients to become more independent with activities of daily living (ADLs). ADLs are all the things someone performs such as dressing, bathing, grooming, hygiene, medication management, laundry, pet care, cooking, cleaning, and much much more. My job is so much fun and I have learned that anything can be turned into a useful task. I love what I do!

@shuri_smith I’m so glad you pushed her through therapy. It breaks my heart when people give up after a broken hip because that can really diminish quality of life. Hope your hit heals up and that you followed hip precautions 😂

@shuri_smith this is terrible, but I always say bed equals dead. But I’m dark and twisty.

I’m in HH, miss the comrades in SNF. Next month is OT awareness and I’m wondering How to celebrate it. What should we all do next month? Any ideas on the theme?
awelch11
@naticaleb123 we typically don’t really celebrate it at our SNF. I also do HH prn. What do you normally do for OT month?
naticaleb123
Way back when… we held an OT awareness month “mini fair,” where the staff would come in and we would measure grip strength, asked them to don a blouse or shirt/pants with one hand/arm, pretending to be hemi, feed or cut with one hand or AE, and many other similar semi difficult tasks. We had a wheel of tasks listed, depending where the arrow landed. Most nurses came and enjoyed and learned how patient and therapist interacted, all while having plenty laughs along the way!

@naticaleb123 that sounds fantastic! Sounds like you had some good coworkers. Unfortunately my stupid company pushes high productivity standards so I refuse to take time out of my day do do anything extra. It sucks when you don’t feel valued.
