The Waikikian Hotel was one of Waikiki’s most beloved mid-century Polynesian resorts, opened in 1956 and instantly recognizable for its dramatic A-frame Tahitian Lanai, lush Tiki gardens, and lagoon-side setting. Known as “Hawaii’s Most Beautiful Hotel,” it offered private beachfront access, a freshwater pool, and 135 suites surrounded by tropical landscaping. The famous Tahitian Lanai restaurant became a cultural landmark, drawing both locals and visitors for waterfront dining and live music. Though the Waikikian was demolished in 1996 to make way for modern redevelopment, it remains a treasure of Hawaii’s classic resort era.
This vintage matchbook cover showcases the hotel’s iconic architecture and colorful resort artwork, capturing the charm of Waikiki’s golden age.
