Vintage Japanese Kokeshi Doll. The Kokeshi doll, a traditional Japanese wooden doll originating from the Tohoku region of the 19th century is handmade of wood, and hand painted facial features and clothing. Some believe they hold spiritual significance, offering protection to children. Suggestions for the care of traditional hand painted Japanese kokeshi dolls. 1. Do not touch with wet hands!; 2. Clean with a soft, dry, cloth only - using a wet cloth will cause the natural colored inks or dyes to smear!; and. 3. Display out of direct sunlight - the natural inks will, unfortunately, fade in time. One small area of paint ware on the black part of the face area as pictured, other than that it is in very good pre-owned vintage condition. Stands 7” tall and 1” wide at base.
