Rare Vintage Girl Scout Patch - A Piece of History!
Step into a nostalgic journey with this unique Girl Scout patch, perfect for collectors and enthusiasts alike. This authentic patch was awarded to a dedicated member of the Nations Capital Troop 856 in the 1960's.
This patch was available from 1963-1974 to senior scouts. From the Girl Scout Collector's Guide: The Five Point program was replaced with the Eight Indispensables in 1963. Designed to help a troop plan and carry out a well-rounded program during the year, the Eight indispensables Patch was made of solid embroidery in green and white and measured approximately 3/4" x 1 1/8". The stylized design featured the letter "I" superimposed over the number "8". It could be earned annually by vote of the troop. The Eight Indispensables were discontinued in 1974 with the introduction of Options, a new resource for Senior Girl Scouts. The "8 Indispensables" of Girl Scouting were:
1. Promise and Laws
2. Troop Management
3. Active Citizenship
4. Voluntary Service
5. Health and Safety
6. Knowledge and Skills
7. International Friendship
8. Vocational Exploration
This patch is more than just memorabilia; it represents friendship, adventure, and a cherished era in scouting. Whether you’re a former Girl Scout or simply appreciate the legacy of this organization, this patch is a must-have addition to your collection.
