Beautiful small Italian Florentine gilt & cream oval frame holding a classical view of the Temple of Saturn in the Roman Forum (Rome, Italy)—a popular Piranesi-style scene. Likely a mid-century Italian souvenir piece (c. 1950s–70s).
Overall approx: 8 3/4_" H x _6.5" W
Materials: carved wood with gesso, painted & gilded
Print: color reproduction of an 18th-c. engraving
Hanging ring on back: Yes
Condition: presents nicely with light surface wear, small rubs to gilding, and age-related craquelure to the painted surround.
What the back shows:
It’s a thin wood backing board with a small triangular brass hanging hook—exactly like the kind used in 1950s–1970s Florentine gilt frames.
There’s no maker sticker left, but the dark aged tone and hand-cut wood shape are consistent with mid-century Italian souvenir production (Florence, Italy).
The black mark “6X” looks like a workshop size/stock code, also common on these.
