This is a beautiful wide brim fedora from the 1940s'. It is made of very fine straw, similar to a Panama hats of today. The medium height crown is rounded. at the top, and the brim is upturned.A wide brown grosgrain band surrounds the crown. At one side there is a brown feather spray with a quill protecting forward, and at the side of this trim there is a small rust colored feather "bird". There is an elastic strap attached to the inside, meant to keep the hat in place.
The wartime 40’s saw a huge variety of hats that were suitable for any face shape, hairstyle or personal preference. Throughout the war and on both sides of the Atlantic, elaborate creations brightened dreary utility fashions, brought about by rationing. The only items not rationed were hat materials. Explosions of feathers, veiling and artificial flowers were popular.
Label: JACCARD Exclusive New York Paris
This hat is in wonderful vintage condition & has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years. Feathers, straw, flowers & veils are fragile, given their age. Mannequin not for sale.
