The first known merry-go-round was invented in the 17th century by a French cavalry officer, who used it to train his troops. The first commercial use of the merry-go-round was in 1760, when a London fairground operator set up a ride at the fair. The ride was a success and soon spread to other fairs and carnivals. By the 19th century, the merry-go-round had become a popular attraction at fairs and carnivals. The rides were often powered by horses or mules, and the riders would sit on wooden horses or benches that were attached to the central platform. The merry-go-rounds of the 19th century were often brightly painted and decorated with mirrors, flags, and other decorations. In the 20th century, the merry-go-rounds were powered by electricity and the horses were replaced by fiberglass figures.
Vintage = beautiful piece without overbearing wear, but the piece is not new. See photos for all details.
