This fabulous woolly mohair coat was designed by Bonnie Cashin during her time at Sills circa 1957. This same style NOH coat is part of the collection at the FIDM Museum collection (do a web search of Bonnie Cashin mohair NOH coat FIDM and you'll see it online) and is a great example of Bonnie's incredibly practical yet stylish design aesthetic.
The woolly mohair is a rich chocolate and black shaggy knit, and the coat is trimmed in black leather. It fastens with two leather ties at the collar, and features leather-trimmed half moon pockets at each side.
Unlined, this piece is light weight yet unbelievably warm and supple. It's perfect for layering (yet another fashion innovation coined by Bonnie!) and is so easy to wear and style. Incredibly rich and stylish, this coat will quickly become one of your favorites - and is so incredibly hard to find nowadays!
Made in the USA. No content label; dry clean only. No size tag but we're estimating this as a modern size L. Approximate measurements, taken flat and doubled where appropriate laying flat: shoulders: 20in, bust: 42in, waist: 36in, hips: 44in, sleeves - 23in, shoulder to hem length: 42in.
Preowned/vintage (50+ years old), we note some signs of age, use and prior wear: some piling to the knit here and there, some wrinkling to the leather trim areas, as you would expect from age and prior wear. Tagged SILLS A BONNIE CASHIN DESIGN.
