🍄 ANTIQUE Mushroom Tole Handpainted Oval Bed Warmer

Back in ye olde bygone days, before the age of central air and heating, if you wanted your bed to be warm before you got into it you would need to make use of a bed warmer. They came in a few different shapes and materials, such as copper "banjo" shaped ones and flat ceramic jugs, but they also sometimes looked like this! This is a handpainted oval or "football" shaped bed warmer, from the early 1900s. It is a base of galvanized metal with a copper screw top with loop handle, painted with a motif of amanita "red cap" mushrooms and a rainbow of berries on a black base, likely done in the 1970s. It is truly one of the coolest things I've ever found, and just look! Look at those mushrooms!! Due to age this is a decorative piece only. The inside has been cleaned as best I could, but is still rusty and has calcium deposits. In an emergency it could still be filed with hot water and used as intended, but not on the regular. The outside is in very good condition, with a few minor scuffs to the upper painted surface and considerable wear on the bottom, from sitting on a fireplace hearth or wood stove top. It measures 11" long, 8" wide, approximately 5.5" with stopper loop down, and about 30" around. The stopper says "Hailo." Thanks for looking! 🍄
