This is an amazing sample of the high fashion millinery creations of the elegant 1950s'! This asymmetrical cap is made of a stiff material covered in a beautiful off white colored honeycomb textured fabric. The cap is surrounded by very creative folds as shown in the photos, ending in a point at one side. The top of the cap is trimmed with black curly feathers, and the front has a velour covered wire made to look like a twig, ending two bulb shapes plus a pearl at each end.
Throughout the 1950s, ladies wore hats daily as a part of their attire as was a pair of gloves. Post war 1940’s and 1950’s saw many women choosing not to wear hats on a regular basis. To preserve its market, the millinery industry set about creating variety and extravagance. Generally speaking hats remained small and close to the head. They were now touted as the essential accessory to complete the ensemble.

Hi! What's the size of this mannequin's head and does the hat require hat pins to secure it in place?

@gwenlpinto the head size is about 22”. This hat is flexible in that it sort of opens and then hugs the head. You can use a hairpin to secure it.

If you prefer, we can attach a vintage black elastic band to the inside. Thank you for browsing. Blessings.
