Haggar, a 34-year-old Lebanese immigrant, started Haggar in 1926 with a single goal in mind; to provide the working man with quality clothing he could afford. He believed that quality and craftsmanship should be a right, not a privilege 1926 The Haggar company was founded in 1926 by Joseph Marion Haggar Sr., who coined the term "slacks" for casual pants worn during “slack” time away from work 1938 In 1938, Haggar began its first national advertising campaign and began the creation of a national sales organization to raise customer awareness of the Haggar name, as well as its trademark Mustang brand 1950 Haggar regularly placed ads in at least a dozen major magazines by 1950, and its distribution system grew accordingly 1976 By the company's 50th birthday in 1976, it increased its sales of slacks during a year in which sales for the industry had experienced a substantial dropoff 1986 By 1986 the line was generating sales of $50 million for Haggar 1990 In 1990, Haggar's sales dropped six percent to $292 million, its first backslide in many years In 1994, Haggar introduced shirts made out of its fabulously successful wrinkle-free cotton material.
