Unfortunately with vintage, eclectic pieces like this I do find many more in my own size range but there have definitely been a few pieces that were special enough for me to buy in the full-figured category. 😘😘😘

@kimberlilynn43 Love it. 😘😘😘 It's funny because I rarely find any vintage clothes from any era that aren't teeny tiny! People always talk about Marilyn having been a size 12 but every size 12 I've ever found from the 50s and 60s fits like a modern 6! Maybe all the more average, fuller clothes just didn't survive because they were actually worn, haha, but anyway I do keep looking for them all the time!

@bad_betty Fantastic work! My husband is an artist, too, but got hardcore into woodworking and moved away from drawing/painting. Getting dressed is very much my art, so your comments mean a lot to me. :) And come play in my closet any time! We can get decked out in my finest Dior and put 75 rings on our fingers and drink our tea in mismatched English china and talk about what we're working on. 😘😘😘

@411onglam Thank you! I have like 12 crates full of unlisted stuff 😂 so it's not that easy for me, either, haha! But mostly I've learned there's always another piece around the corner and I let things flow in and out of my collection. I personally love modeled shots (obviously!) for vintage because the character and life of the piece really comes across. But, really, all that a piece needs to find the right person is to be out there and seen. :)

@musemax Exciting! I personally haven’t tried any share groups though I know many of the ladies in them. Definitely share their stuff, within the bounds of the group or just on your own, and they’ll do the same for you and you’ll make your way through establishing yourself amongst vintage lovers.

@musemax I would say most important thing is to establish your own look/niche and keep it consistent (but a wide variety of sizes is encouraged). Try to keep a consistent look with your photos, just like with anything you’re selling, so people know immediately it’s yours. In my case I’m often modeling it - I think that really helps people have an idea how the piece works on an actual person.

@musemax The next thing I’d say is get yourself to at least 50 vintage listings, but again the consistent style comes first so don’t waste time and money on anything that doesn’t fit with your chosen aesthetic.

@musemax Finally, don’t target just the already existing Poshmark users because there are many more vintage lovers not on Posh than on it. Optimize for google searches, share to Pinterest and IG, etc., in ways tailored to those platforms. It does take time to build interest and a following, just keep going! 😘😘😘

@musemax Btw, I do also curate down sometimes and give something that doesn’t work in my closet anymore as a freebie or donate it. When I have a lot of listings that something looked good with and they’ve all sold and now it just doesn’t mesh with anything, out it goes. :)

@annick100 Please feel free to use anything I’ve learned that will help you. I do have photography background but I actually use my phone for everything! I don’t have time for transferring photos, basically. I didn’t find that SLR photos sold anything for more money or any faster. I have a tripod with phone adapter, too.

@annick100 For outdoor shots, I use natural light with partial shade. For on the go shots of jewelry I have a small clip on ring light if the light inside somewhere isn’t good enough. For my new basement studio setup, I have four different methods of staging: a hunk of tree table, a pole sticking out of a pipe to hang a hanger, a dressform, and a blank section of wall for modeled shots.

@annick100 For the first three, I use the native iPhone camera app, change to square mode, and change the color to “vivid cool” to act as a white balance. For modeling, I set up the tripod and use an app called camera genius which has a repeating timer so I don’t have to walk back to the phone over and over again. I also always shoot from way down low.

@annick100 Tripod is set to somewhere between hip and waist level and I take a knee for all hanger and dressform shots (except jewelry). I find the waist level shots give the best proportions/least distortion.

I’ve so much of a similar type basement set-up—also shoot from my knee, or set tri-pod low, but your tips were clearer & the one for the filter... amazing (!) as I have so so much black hanging on 5 racks of unlisted clothing (and so little time to list 😩). I’ll freely admit that I’ve become lazy about shooting outside or modeling myself any longer, tho when I did, I sold much faster!

Makes sense; seeing outfits put together really helps the buyer. Recently I took a basically full-time job as Program Coordinator for the local Meals on Wheels & that’s REALLY cut into my Poshing time, but those racks of clothes aren’t going anywhere now are they? lol. Plus a box full of vintage jewelry. If I didn’t have $ invested in it all I’d donate it to a good cause, but I’ve got to get re-energized & recoup. Your Closet (tho it has amazed me in the past) has excited me again today!

I’m much older than you, & as said, I’m not looking to ‘take’ your look, nor are the bulk of my clothes as beautifully vintage as yours, but some are fine vintage pieces, others lovely current pieces— I shall try some of your tips, as well as forcing myself & a rack of clothes outdoors! @fashsplashhts She currently has a bunch of cheap and whimsical from Target but also a coach wristlet and a Kate spade bag from her aunt. 😂 My personal weaknesses are diversified a bit but Moschino features heavily. Also love Jil Sander, Mansur Gavriel, Rick Owens, Alexander Wang, McQueen... all the darker aesthetic brands. Love YSL, too, but have mostly just owned shoes and accessories.

@fashsplashhts I want the monster wallet so bad! I’ll even take a men’s wallet. After I pay for preschool this year and hit my goals for next year and reinvest, I’m setting aside the money! I grew up in NY, everyone gets to do “them” and it’s cool with me. Really couldn’t care less what parts my fashion friends have and how they identify. ❤️

This truly is a quite impressive closet!! I have to say, I am a bit obsessed. It’s like reading a great book, that you can’t put down. Completely over the moon with all your treasures. I would say the main thing with vintage, especially general/non-designer vintage, is it just takes time to build a following and for the right person to stumble upon your item in their search. To help it along, I would try to stick to the same background/styling as much as possible so people start to recognize your listings as yours. :)

@mboutique4you Your lighting looks great, so that’s good news. The other thing you could work on to get better traffic is SEO (search engine optimization). This just means putting your titles and descriptions in a certain order to attract people looking for your item. Decide if a brand is highly sought after to put the brand name first in the title and if it isn’t put vintage first. In the first sentence of the description, repeat the title in a different order. ❤️

Another thing that helps me is spreading out the listing so if I have 35 items to list this week, I’ll list five or six a day so I always have something showing up in the new listings section to draw people in. :)
