Antique Ewer, Victoria Carlsbad Austria, Hand Painted Cherub Cupid, Vase Pitcher

Lovely antique Ewer / Vase / Pitcher by the famous porcelain maker Victoria Carlsbad Austria, probably in the late 1800s. It is a rich blue and white, gilded with gold, with a hand-painted scene of cherubs / cupid. The design is ornate with an intricately decorated handle, raised relief above the base that almost looks like waves or sea creatures, slender neck and delicate spout. In excellent vintage condition with no chips or cracks. There is some paint wear, especially on the gilding on the handle, as is to be expected given its age. It stands about 9.5 inches tall. Ewers such as this were probably used to hold water on a bedside table or nightstand, either for drinking or (together with a bowl) to be able to wash hands etc at a time when running water in a bathroom was not common. Today, they are mostly used for decorative purposes, or as vases.
