"Own a piece of history! This is a stunning piece of Murano glass by Flavio Poli. This features a heavy, green glass that shifts into a thick amber base in the Sommerso Seguso Vetri D' Arte murano style. This has a small narrow rim with a ground and smooth base. This is 9.5"" tall and approximately 5.5" in diameter and this weighs over 6 lbs by itself.
Flavio Poli born in 1900 was an Italian artist, known for his designs in glass. In 1929, he began working for Industrie Vetraie Artistiche Murano as a designer of glassware. He was appointed artistic director of Barovier, Seguso & Ferro (later Seguso Vetri d’Arte) in 1934, where he devised a style of 'submerged' glass, with several transparent layers. From 1964 to 1966 he led the artistic glass division of the Società Veneziana di Conterie e Cristallerie. Poli died in 1984. A number of his works are in the Murano Glass Museum, the National Gallery of Victoria, Australia, and MoMA in New York.
Dating comes from pieces that where shown Designed By Poli and took the 'ARTE NUOVA MURANO, GRAND PRIZE, at the Worlds Fair in Brussels in 1958. Capitalizing on the sommerso design and color combination this collection of Poli's was produced from 1958 until the beginning of 1960. Poli was artistic director at SVDA from 1937 until 1963.
